Job Description:
The Special Assistant will: • Take a lead in examining the current faculty recruitment and hiring process. Will work with the VP Human Resource Management & Labor Relations, Deputy to the President for Strategic Initiatives, and constituencies throughout the College in developing a plan for examining the process; ensuring wide input and feedback from all constituencies in the College; and making detailed, workable recommendations to the President. Upon approval of the plan, will take a lead in implementing the strategy. • Take the lead working with consultant in examining current staff classification and compensation model; working with the joint labor-management committee throughout the process; making detailed recommendations; and developing an implementation strategy. Will take lead in implementing the revised system upon agreement with all parties. • Examine various HR policies and practices that impact recruitment, employment, and termination and make recommendations for changes to better serve the entire FIT community. • Work with the VP and/or other senior staff within HR and/or senior administrators throughout the College to develop organizational change strategies; organizational redesigns to support the College's evolving strategic directions; and to provide guidance and support to senior administrators in implementing such plans; and/or coaching others to provide such support. • Develop a training needs assessment for non-faculty positions throughout the College. Will take the results of the training needs assessment and develop a comprehensive plan for the College. Oversee the implementation of such a plan in concert with others in the Office. • Participate in other special and on-going projects at the direction of the VP. • Direct and coach, and may supervise, staff within the HR as appropriate and assigned by the VP.
Requirements:
The individual in this position must have at least 7 years of experience in higher education human resource management, 4 years of which must be at the supervisory or managerial level. Experience in a public sector higher education setting and/or a unionized environment a plus. The individual must also possess a Master's degree or a law degree. Degrees in human resources, public administration, business administration or some related field preferred. Certifications in human resource disciplines a plus but not required.
